    (#01)

    Date: Apr 14, 1996 | Passage: 1 Thessalonians 3

How did Paul minister to gay people? He gave them the same plan he gave any other sinner. God's recovery program is sanctification! When Paul proclaimed Christ to those deep in the dungeon of sin, he offered a recovery program. The vice grip of sin could be destroyed and the sin appetite abated.

Did Paul see lasting change? Resoundingly the Scriptures say YES! The vivid reality of washed saints, cleansed from the filth of sin’s prison, is the grandest picture the first-century church passed on to us.

  • Our New Life in Christ
    (#03)

    Date: Sep 15, 1996 | Passage: 1 Thessalonians 2:12

When you look at this letter written to the saints of Thessalonica - remember it as an epistle born in adversity! What did these people act like? Here is an actual letter that still exists: They love one another. They never fail to help widows; they save orphans from those who would hurt them. If they have something they give freely to the man who has nothing; if they see a stranger, they take him home, and are happy, as though he were a real brother. They don't consider themselves brothers in the usual sense, but brothers instead through the Spirit, in God. (Aristides describing Christians to the Emperor Hadrian 2 Century AD) The Apostle Paul is celebrating the new life Christ brings to all who come to Him. No less than 10 times he points out freshness of this new life in Christ.

Genesis 3:8-10 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. What are you doing in your life that will last forever? All of the magnificent buildings of Solomon, including the Temple are gone. All of the wonderful buildings of Herod are rubble. The Pyramids are crumbling, the Tower of Pisa is leaning . . . Paul came to Thessalonica with an offer of something they could become a part of that never ends. Christ said here is something anyone in my family can do!

  • Walking the Worthy Walk through Life
    (#08)

    Date: Dec 8, 1996 | Passage: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-12

At his conversion, Paul was warned of the many things he would have to suffer for Chrisf s sake (Acts 9:16), and as he came to suffer e never sighed or moaned but gloried in his tribulations and was prouder of his scars in battle than a soldier of his medals and decorations (Gal. 6:17). What a warrior-missionary he was! The world has never seen his like.

  • Serving God Through Tough Times
    (#09)

    Date: Dec 22, 1996 | Passage: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-12

Our God likes to take the weak and use them in the tough times! How wonderful that God is more gracious than men. God never excuses disobedience, unfaithfulness, or any other sin. But He will forgive every sin that is placed under the atoning death of His Son, Jesus Christ. Position, prestige, or possessions give no advantage with Him, and lack of those things gives no disadvantage. As Peter learned only after much resistance to the idea, "God is not one to show partiality".
